How to Use Postage Stamps on a Junk Journal Page
I’m at it again with my love of perusing the aisles of a thrift store. There are just so many wonderful trinkets to be found that I can’t help myself! I had a great find with ‘Granny’s Lifetime Collection’ for only five dollars. Half price day… Yay!
Granny’s collection is a plethora of interesting old postage stamps that I love. Today we will work together to best figure out how to put them to use. I was doing a project before for the Graphics Fairy, and have a leftover piece of paper with various cutout shapes that will make a good stencil I think. So let’s get started and have some fun.
First we place the makeshift stencil over a book page and spray some Glimmer mist over it to see what happens. Removing the stencil leaves some nice copper color circles and squares. I love the shimmer produced by the mist. I am viewing these stamps for the first time just as you are. Some of the stamps are on torn sections of envelopes for a nice effect, while others are stand alone. Wow-the stamps appear to be from countries all over the world. Egypt, Britain, Poland, America….
We now apply glue with glue stick to some pieces and randomly set them on the other book page. There is a stamp with a heart. Love that! Next we glue some sections over the stenciled circles and squares. Once again, we just get started and let the creative process sort of come to us as we go, without over-thinking it! Set an angle for a shadow effect against the stenciled square is the top right square stamp. A cute bird stamp is discovered. Love it too!
The sparkly finish of the copper mist paint really highlights the page well I think. We burnish the the stamps to finish, and we have another personalized creation that we love and can be proud of. I think I will use the stencil a few more times before gluing it to the altered book. Perhaps I’ll add some writing or lettering later. Thanks for joining me again on our junk journaling journey!
