Today we are making a Multi-layered Circles Background for Junk Journal. We are ‘kicking it up a notch’ with multiple processes going on based on use of alcohol inks. Today is all about circles in our Journal The Word Class. For 40 Days, We are Bible Journaling in a Junk Journal Style. This course is called Book of Notes – Journal The Word!! Let’s uncover the divine mysteries of your most alive and spacious creative self as we create a journal for your sermon notes, Sunday school thoughts, or reflections about your Bible Study. This event will run from March 1 through the Thursday before Easter or the Last Supper. You can join in any time!!
Circles Background for Junk Journal
I first coated the page I’m using on the sketch book with gloss Mod Podge. I wanted a slick surface to work with, because without this the process of combining the elements will not work properly. Some gloss is squirted on the book page and covered by brushing as you see. Make sure you clean your brush right away.
Now we go to our alcohol inks. Today we’re using the intense colors of lavender and burgundy. First we spray a few areas with distress ink called ‘broken china,’ leaving some areas more pronounced than others. Next we plop some of the lavender and burgundy paint on the paper, working with odd numbers of sections.
The next stage is to use the circular elements of a lid and tray to mark different sized circles. Then we apply some rubbing alcohol with a dropper on top of the paint. This reacts more quickly to the distress ink than the alcohol ink. A close up view displays the interesting array of resulting colors and shapes. The red is a tad too intense, so I dab it a bit with a cloth. You see how we can use various techniques for our desired result.
Spraying over the area again darkens the blue and leaves the paint looking a little less spotty. Applying some drops again followed by blotting with a cloth further embellishes the artwork. You can see all of the shapes taking form now. I decided lightly brush across the page in different directions to soften it up some.
Thanks for joining me as always, and let’s keep on learning and making progress together on our junk journaling journey!
