Learn How to Create a Journal Background with a Window. Today we will create a door, following the “seek and you shall find” or “knock and the door will open” Biblical theme. What I have shown on the video are homemade alcohol ink sprays. The bottles are actually for eyeglass cleaning that I found at the dollar store. They spray a mist, which is what we want. Gel food coloring was mixed with alcohol to obtain perfect shade that I am looking for. Please scroll down to view the video!
Bible Journal Background with a Window
Today we will create a door, following the “seek and you shall find” or “knock and the door will open” Biblical theme. What I have shown on the video are homemade alcohol ink sprays. The bottles are actually for eyeglass cleaning that I found at the dollar store. They spray a mist, which is what we want. Gel food coloring was mixed with alcohol to obtain perfect shade that I am looking for.
We start with a yellow color by shaking the bottle well and spraying. Next red and aqua colors are added, then more yellow is scattered around. You will need a good sharp craft knife and a recommended metal ruler to cut out the book page for a door. The page underneath is protected with a piece of plastic, but a cutting mat will of course suffice, or even cardboard.
We move to making some marks with the craft knife. When first using this knife, it’s a good idea to not press overly hard and take your time as you get the feel of it. Cut a few times until you have gone through the paper. Next we cut horizontally left to right on top and bottom ends. As you see, it now opens for a nice, nifty door. Burnish the edge for a crease to make it easy to open and close.
I am in a joyful mood today so I think I will place a piece of music under the door as shown. Love it! We hold the strip of music in place and turn the page followed by a little glue from my glue stick under the top section. The strip is too long, so I tear it down to size, then glue stick under the other sides and smooth down. Easy peasy! I’ve put on a little excess glue that I don’t want, so I take some corn starch and rub it on the sticky surface to soften it. Talcum powder also does the trick. That’s it!
Thanks again for joining me as we continue to learn and make progress while having fun on our junk journaling journey! I hope that you like the “knock and door opens” concept of this tutorial as well. See you next time!
