Welcome to Paint Tuesday on our junk journaling journey where we will be Painting Book Pages. Today we are going to make what I’ll call a lovely and glittery ‘Pharaoh’s Gold’ background. Mixed Media at its most fun. Let’s get into our paintbox today and create backgrounds for our junk journal, art books, altered books, scrapbooking, etc. Whatever you want to paint to make a splendid background! You won’t want to miss it. Please scroll down to view the video!
Painting Book Pages – Paint Tuesday
A lovely shade of gold, this metallic paint is made by Modern Masters. Also being used are a favorite color of mine named cobalt teal (made by Golden Acrylics), along with a new color to me that I found at Tuesday Morning called ‘grape soda,’ made by Paint Dauber. We’ll use a palette knife today for part of the application. On a side note, I want to mention that Golden brand acrylics do not need to be shaken because they are already well emulsified.
Some gesso has been applied to one of my book pages. We put a few drops of the cobalt teal and and a couple of globs of the gold onto the page to mix together with the palette knife. We don’t want to mix it too much as it will leave one coloration. Now we will let the paint dry after clamping the pages together. I used a hair dryer on both sides of the pages, which left some nice raised areas of paint.
At this stage we experiment with the grape soda paint by daubing some of it onto a stamp and stamping a page. The palette knife is also used to spread some. Then we just daub some grape soda directly onto the pages as well. Note: with art it is always a good idea to have at least three areas painted with each color. This is known as the “rule of threes.”
I think this resulted in a pretty interesting background with a mix of pretty and vibrant colors along with random, varied shapes. I hope you enjoyed experimenting with the several different applications and colors as much as I have on this project. Now you can experiment as you create your own special backgrounds!
