Folded Peek-a-Boo Spots
Peek-a-Boo Spots are so much fun. We will learn how to fold paper to make a Peek-a-Boo prize that can go in a tag pocket or book. For entering in a book, you don’t want your paper to be any wider than the book page. The book shown is ten inches across so we will start with a 10″x10″ piece of paper. A heavy weight text paper is perfect for this project. Card stock is a bit bulky.
First we fold paper in half with white side out, then burnish it well. Fold again in half and burnish. Now we go point to point forming a triangle twice. Then the paper is turned back to square and folded in half to form a rectangle. It gets a little tricky here, but as with other projects you will do fine by watching the tutorial carefully followed by practice.
How to Fold the Paper
Pick up the page from the top left corner and fold down, leaving another triangular shape as you can see. Now flip over and pick up the top left corner again. Fold down to the bottom corner. We now have two flaps on each side. Next bring paper together from top right corner into the middle and burnish. Then do the same from top left corner as shown. Flip over and follow same folding patterns.
We now have a triangular shape. The next folds on each side are known as valley folds (vs. mountain folds), since they are turned downward to the center as “inside folds.” This will work fine if you have previously burnished well. At this stage I call it a “tent fold” as you see when the page is opened. The resulting closed shape is a pentagon ‘house’ shape.
Let’s glue it into the book now. Removing six to eight pages from book will provide ample room. Cut a small notch into a book page at center where the corner of the folder can slide in. Now we glue stick around the edges of folder and place in book page’s center. Open and carefully lightly burnish from the inside.
Now we cover the folder with glue and simply close the book. Open up and yay! We have a really cool folder! One final point: If you wish to glue some embellishments to the folder it is best to do so beforehand, and place on flat areas to avoid creases. I put an envelope and journaling block on a previous one as shown. Additionally, any size paper can be used depending on what you are creating the folder for.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, and keep on moving forward on your personal junk journaling journey!
