Create Dangling Embellishments for Junk Journal Pages
In today’s junk journal journal we will learn how to make some nifty trinkets to be used in our altered book projects. This is very fun crafting! Pages, pockets, and envelopes are just some of the elements that these embellishments can be used with. First we will draw eight heart shapes on an index card that was used before on our first day with the faux jelly pad technique. Then the hearts are cut out with scissors. I use a hole punch to make the hole that our colorful wire will go through.
Now we will look at creating spirals in our wire that will hold our embellishments. The wires that we are using come in a wide variety of pretty, shiny colors. They can typically easily be found in craft stores. A pair of round tip needle nose pliers and a wire cutter are needed for this. A spiral is easy to make once you understand the concept. For me, it was a bit confusing at first.
The best way to learn is to start with a fairly long piece of at least four to five inches. Make a tiny spiral, then crimp it as tightly as you can. Clamp your little spiral section with needle nose pliers, then hold the wire and wrap it clockwise to add to the spiral. Move the wire in your hand counterclockwise if right handed, then re-clamp with pliers. Wrap wire again clockwise and repeat. Watching the video should make it pretty easy for you I think. Another example here, as with many other junk journaling pursuits, of something that is pretty easy to do if you learn the proper technique first! A visual demonstration is often the easiest way to learn. Now we apply some beads onto the wire and put the wire through the heart hole, then create another spiral on the other end in the opposite direction.
