Bible Journaling Junk Journal Style!

We are a few days into our Journal The Word. For 40 Days we are Bible Journaling in a Junk Journal Style. This FREE course is called Book of Notes – Journal The Word!! Bible Journaling Junk Journal Style

Today we are making a highly textured background using Mod Podge as our medium. This is a truly easy and fun collage technique. Named after its use as a decoupage medium, Mod Podge is quite popular with artists toady. The one we are using is white matte, which applies white but dries clear. Pages from old newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, and music are examples of sources that can be used for this junk journal project. We will also use tissue paper. Derived by mixing the white matte Mod Podge with a little red paint is a cinnamon color that we want. Randomness is good for this project. Messy is also good here!

Now we place a page (something about bridges) with calculations, drafting, etc. on white notebook paper. First we brush the Mod Podge on the notebook paper, then cover the ‘bridge subject’ paper with it as well. Mod Podge is used as glue for the bottom and top of papers as we are doing here. (You could also use gel medium as the glue.) Now we set a musical notes strip of paper over the bridge one, then a random piece of book page paper.

Next we utilize tissue paper and hand rub to make smooth and bumpy areas for different textures. Brush and dab tissue paper to mix it up a bit. Now mixing colors together, we create the cinnamon color look! With palette knife, we mix more red along with some yellow paint to produce various (variegated) colors. Using a damp washcloth, we further dab colors thoroughly on the paper. The last step is simply brushing a final coat of matte Mod Podge to seal in the colors. The Mod Podge dries perfectly clear as previously noted.
