In today’s junk journaling tutorial, we are Tearing Stepped Tuck Spots for Junk Journals, Altered Books, Cards, Scrapbooks, Paper Crafting. Layered tuck spots are perhaps one of the easiest applications that we will dive into on our junk journaling journey. That certainly doesn’t mean any less fun though, and beautiful creations will be made with them! You won’t want to miss the Quick Mixed Media Tutorial. Please scroll down the page to view the video.
Tearing Stepped Tuck Spots for Junk Journals
We first see horizontally torn areas of our book pages, with one on top of another for a ‘stepped’ effect. Each is torn at a different height as shown below. We tear four consecutive pages horizontally, leaving about one inch space between. I call these steps. The bottom step will be about two inches tall. The second step, three inches and so on. A wavy pattern results on these tears as well. (I’ll save those torn pages for a later use.)
Painting Stepped Pages
Now we paint from the center of the book out, once again following the torn grain. I love that yellow and blue combination! Still visible for a nice added effect is some of the text. You can leave them open, or glue them down if you prefer. Glue them before you paint. Using the brush with acrylic paint, we now go ‘with the grain’ of the tears to prevent the paper from being ruffled up. Starting with the light yellow color, we also add a dark blue color for contrast. Notice how the wavy tear patterns on this paper become more pronounced as we are adding the paint.
I did want to mention the importance of contrast that was employed today using light and dark colors. Mentioned before as being an essential element in virtually all of our projects, contrast augments our art by providing sort of s ‘wow’ factor that makes it stand out.
Thanks for participating again today, and keep that contagious creativity in motion!!
