Stencil and Stamp with Crayons Junk Journal Tutorial
In our tutorial we will have fun playing with new materials. crayons by Vicki Boutin and a big fabric block stamp made by Plaid Fabric Creations. The crayons are water soluble. They have a lot of pigment as you can see. Not overly hard or soft, they are on the dry side, which makes them easy to use and ideal for stenciling. The box of crayons that I found at Tuesday Morning is called the ‘Natural Set.’ The stencil being used is from ‘Stencil Girl.’ After rubbing my stencil brush in the crayon material, it becomes a sort of paint. I now can brush the paint in a swirling pattern inside the stencil holes.
The paint lasts a long time on the brush, and adheres well to the paper without streaking. A splendid pattern results on the paper as our junk journal lesson continues. Next I spritz a little water on more crayon material that I have drawn onto the plate. I then run the brush through the wet crayon paint and ‘pounce’ or jab it into the stencil holes for a different look of more uniform dots. Pouncing doesn’t tend to go under the stencil as readily as swirling does. Next I’ve added yellow with blue. After spraying and brushing the two together a greenish color is added, and an index card placed on the paint leaves a pretty impression.
Using the Block Stamp
Now we progress to using the block stamp. After drawing brown crayon in an area slightly bigger than the stamp, I spritz again, then swirl my brush through again. I like to brush on the excess paint onto the stamp before stamping the paint on the paper. Wow-a perfect image results! You can also dip your crayon in water to wet it, then rub it directly on the stamp. After also adding yellow to the center we have more of a floral look. Cool! Clean your brush and stamp and you have taken another step in your junk journal journey.
May joy be with you all!
