See how the make Folded Pocket Pages in Altered Books, Junk Journals, and for mixed media, paper art,and paper crafting projects. Today we are going to discuss folding and folders as we continue on our Junk Journaling Journey. Folding pages to create nifty pockets is a really fun craft. We also think about ways to use folding your pages, such as combining tearing with folding. Please scroll down to view the video.
Folded Pocket Pages in Altered Books
As you see in the tutorial, we first fold a book page in half from the upper right corner downward to center (becomes a triangle shape), then burnish with bone folder. Next we go to the following page and fold in half in the opposite direction from the bottom right corner upward to center and burnish.
We have created multiple pockets from this simple process. Aren’t little tuck spots great? Next we will use a bit of Fabri-Tac glue along both seams to reinforce the pages. We can now place some cards and tags into the pockets, then add a little more glue between the front and back pockets for stability. Lots of great hiding places here!
Now we once again fold a page in half from the lower right corner upward and burnishing. Then we see another option by folding the top part of page in half at the center for three more pockets. You can paint or stamp if you want. Gluing is an option or you can leave as is with flaps. Now I go to my trusty brown shoe polish for distressing the edges.
Playing, exploring, and having fun is what junk journaling (and art in general I think) is really all about. It’s a good idea to have a basic idea of what you want to do, but just get in there, start creating and experimenting, and don’t worry too much about a specific plan. We all have our own ideas and skills, and often there isn’t a right or wrong way to create. What is actually ‘right’ is your unique imagination and creativity!
