How to Create 3 Books with 1 File Folder
Today we take one file folder and create three lovely little folders that go inside of a junk journal. So let’s get started and begin creating again. Watching the video, you can see how the folders open as tri-folds. I have aged the edges and put some scrapbook paper on them. Using prototype folders, you can follow where the fold and cuts are made. The file folder is to be measured from the top of the file folder (raised section).
The first step involves the scoring the folder at the proper points, then cutting them. Each section is scored at 3 7/8″ across. The first score is at 3 7/8,” then 7 3/4.” Make sure that you press pretty hard with your scoring tool, so that the score will apply to both sides of your file folder. Now we are going to make our cuts. The first cut is at the 7 3/4″ mark. After cutting fold along score lines. The second cut is at 4 1/4.” The reason why I made these cuts was so that the little folding place can be a natural pocket. Now we fold the third section as shown.
Next we will look for some scrap paper to use on the front. I have rounded the edges and aged (distressed) them with distress ink. Leave tiny gaps if you don’t want the decorative paper in the fold. I try to align from the bottom edge. Now we will distress all of the edges of the file folder. This also hides any imperfections. Choose how you wish to fold.
Now we have options of what to do with the inside. Are we going to leave it as a folder, sew signatures in, or decorate the inside? It’s really just up to you. Next I’m doing a little trimming followed by aging the edges again. And we have the three pretty folders to add to our art collection! I hope you had fun with this lesson and continue with contagious creativity on you journey.
