Today we will make quick, spattered Crumpled Stilt Skins Backgrounds for junk journals, altered books, paper crafting, card making. Made from Mod Podge and Acrylic paint. Mixed Media at its most fun. Make sure that you scroll down the page to find the video tutorial.
Crumpled Stilt Skins Backgrounds
. This is a bit messy, but really easy and loads of fun! We are using a small plastic bag from the produce department of the grocery store. These bags are perfect for making great marks on paper. First I mix navy colored acrylic with a little water. I gessoed the pages previously. Mix a 3 to 1 ratio Mod Podge to acrylic, add few drops water, and mix up well. The consistency is ‘milky’ but also glazed. Mod Podge makes the paint more translucent. (Easier to see through. but not totally transparent.)
We first place a piece of wax paper down for page protection. Next we take an old paintbrush and set a few dabs of our paint mixture on the plastic baggie, fold it over and scrunch it up, then open it and fold it over . Next set it on the paper and gently press several times. Now random marks are left on the paper, and can see the translucency if you look carefully.
Now let’s look a great hack to use with this project. Take some corn starch from the kitchen cabinet and sprinkle over paint, then rub it around to cover the surface. This prevents the pages from sticking together and also helps the paint dry. Now we go over with a dry brush, leaving it a bit lighter with interesting sort of marbleized random forms. The page can be closed now without sticking.
Lastly we accent a previous work with a white calligraphy pen, and enjoy some doodling as you see. Note: You can use different colors if you wish. Think outside the box, use your tools on hand, and raid the kitchen! I hope you had fun today as much I as did, and keep moving forward on your junk journaling journey!
