Junk Journal Tutorial Decorative Flip Flaps
About the Junk Journal Tutorial
In this video tutorial we discuss how to make these easy, elegant Decorative Flip Flaps in this stunning Junk Journal and Altered Book.
How to Make a Decorative Flip Flap
I used last year’s calendar from The Graphics Fairy to make this beautiful junk journal page decoration along with my trusty glue stick. I pasted one of the darling bird and flower images from the calendar onto an index card. I then stamped and decorated the image.
Next, as seen in the video, the card is folded and glued over approximately half of a plain white piece of paper, also rectangular shaped. Make sure that it is set as straight as possible. Next I fold and cut a water colored piece of paper and glue it to the back side of the calendar card. The top of the card is now custom cut in a curvy manner, leaving it a nice undulating shape that curves around the flowers. Then I take a brush and lightly apply shoe polish around the edges to produce an aged effect. This is known as distressing.
Now we glue two book pages partially together, ensuring that they are lined up well, and leave a little room for a pocket. The plain white, non-decorative side is glued to the inside of the book page, leaving the colorful side on the outside of the page. Now the paper piece can be flipped back and forth, thus a Flip Flap. The final step as shown involves cutting a little strip with meaningful wording on it from a page in our book being altered. It is glued to the inside of the flap, then highlighted around the edges for embellishment. A journaling card can be placed in the pocket area as seen in the first part of the video.
May joy be with you all!
